Rick, I'm not crazy about moving your main entry into the courtyard; You still need to deal with the corner condition, and it begs for an entry!, the courtyard has a great potential to become an outdoor (learning) space a bit more exclusively for the users. I don't think it has to be accessible by the public directly from the street. I don't know what to do with the ventilation sketch, but Chris' decision chart might lead you to thinking about natural vs. mechanical.
Yeah I am not sure about moving the entry either. Just an idea to see what that might be. I was not convinced it worked either... more to come. I wanted to play with the light shells in plan. I kinda like that idea, but as you said, I am not sure it is a great idea for entry. That corner still needs to be resolved on the first floor. I would like the light shells to be expressed at that end behind the stair case. The stair needs a good deal of transperancy for that to work. But not too much...
The ventilation sketches will be a hybrid of mechanical and a passive natural ventilation to relieve some the heat and give the occupants the opportunity to open windows. The main goal will be to provide good indoor air quality. Which was one of the main benefits of the displacement ventilation. Any thoughts Chris? Am I thinking about that correctly?
Rick, I was thinking the "shell idea" could help you organise exhibit-circulation-class rooms, as well as transitions to service spaces, not only the main entry. Frankly, I think the main entry could be very direct, as there is no ambiguety; you are in or out...
